Keyless Entry
The act of putting a key in locks is disappearing from the past, and a lot of new vehicles now have keyless entry. You can unlock your vehicle by pressing the button on the fob or grasping the door handle. This allows you to remain hands free and not have to dig around in your bag looking for keys.
The system is based on the car transmitting an audio signal that is received by the key fob which in turn sends a reply signal to the car. This is then recognised by the car and it will normally open the doors or turn on the interior lighting (if set up to do so).
Certain variations of keyless entry don't require a fob at all instead, they use an application on a smartphone that can send an electronic signal directly to the car. This is also referred to as a phone-as key, or a digital-key. It's an excellent method to allow other drivers to access your car without having to hand over keys.
It is important to remember that keyless entry systems aren't foolproof and there have been reports of people who had their cars taken away using this technology. This will turn off the battery of your remote control if it's not moved for a period of minutes, making it much harder to steal the car.
